October is breast Cancer awareness month. It is a time when we reflect on breast cancer research, prevention, and consider those who both have had breast cancer, and those who are still currently battling the disease. The Hope Center wanted to commemorate and honor the month and people who have been affected by breast cancer through educating our students in grades 4th - 12th, and take a moment to recognize the month.
Melissa McKenzie came to speak about her experience, journey and understanding of breast cancer. After speaking, she opened the floor for questions which helped illustrate more clearly a picture for the students about how breast cancer does not only affect one person. We ended the discussion in prayer for her continued well-being and families everywhere that have been impacted by breast cancer. The night ended with fellowship over dinner and a greater empathy for others.
