During our Juneteenth event, I had the distinct pleasure of serving in the food line alongside Mamie Snoddy. As she shared her heartfelt reasons for dedicating her time to the event and staying at her post throughout, I felt compelled to share her inspiring story with all of you.
Late 2022, Mamie and her husband Chris, along with their two children Asa and Antil, moved to Kansas City. Mamie was on the lookout for a local group that would offer opportunities for her children to participate in KAA (Kids Across America). Through her search, a KAA rep connected her with both Hope Center and another youth agency. Asa began attending Hope Center’s youth activities in June 2024, initially seeking a connection for KAA. Their son, Asa, started attending Hope Center youth activities int June of 2024, initially for the connection for KAA.
What Mamie soon discovered was far more than just a stepping stone to KAA. She found a program that addresses the whole person—spiritually, physically, educationally, mentally, medically, and socially. Hope Center’s holistic approach is rare, providing not only physical health but also nurturing emotional well-being. Asa has thrived in this environment, forming meaningful relationships with other youth and feeling safe to be his authentic self while being challenged to grow as a leader. He deeply admires Mr. Tim, his group leader, and finds the group discussions on self-worth, conflict resolution, and self-regulation incredibly impactful. Asa also looks forward to the boys' outings organized by the Center.
Mamie’s dedication to Hope Center is rooted in her belief in our mission. She shared with me, “I believe in the mission to provide asset-based programs and opportunities for sustainable growth and development, where children, youth, and families can flourish. Hope Center’s vision to develop healthy communities where the vulnerable can have hope, flourish, and thrive resonates deeply with me.”
Mamie’s story is a beautiful testament to the impact of our work and the incredible individuals who support it. We are grateful for her involvement and for all of you who help make our mission a reality.
